General recommendations for wearing and using our jewellery

THE RIGHT RING SIZE

If you have purchased a ring from us, make sure that its size matches the size of your finger. A ring that is too tight can restrict blood circulation, while one that is too loose can easily slip off. If your ring does not fit, contact us about the possibility of adjusting the size. You can read more about ring adjustment options on our blog.

THE RIGHT WAY TO WEAR

Only use jewellery for its intended purpose, i.e. for everyday wear or social events. Remove jewellery during physically demanding activities and sports to prevent damage. Put on and take off your jewels carefully, especially if it has significant stones or decorations, to avoid damage. Remove rings before activities that could cause significant scratching or deformation, such as working with tools or lifting heavy objects. Do not expose jewellery to high temperatures, such as boiling water or fire.

CONTACT WITH CHEMICALS

Protect jewellery from contact with aggressive chemicals such as cleaning detergents, perfumes, or cosmetics, which could damage its surface or any stones.

STORAGE

When you are not wearing your jewel, store it in a dry and safe place, best in a separate box or soft bag to prevent scratches or other damage.

CLEANING

For cleaning, you can use soap or dish soap. Gently soap your jewel, rinse it with warm water, and polish it with a cloth. Avoid using aggressive cleaning agents that could damage the material of the jewel. You can read more about care according to the type of material used below.

Safety warning

HEALTH PROBLEMS

If you notice redness, swelling or other skin irritation in the area where you wear the jewels, take them off right away and visit a doctor if the problem doesn't go away.

SAFETY

When handling heavy objects or working with mechanical equipment, remove your jewel to avoid injury or damage. When wearing necklaces and pendants, there is a risk of them getting caught on objects, which can lead to injury or strangulation. We recommend removing jewellery before physical activities or activities where there is an increased risk of snagging. If necessary, the ring can be cut or snipped with pliers. We have prepared an illustrated guide.

CHILDREN AND PETS

Keep jewellery out of reach of small children and pets to prevent swallowing or other hazards.

Care of surgical steel and titanium jewellery

  • Use a soft cloth, such as a piece of flannel, to polish your jewels.
  • For everyday wear, soapy water and a soft cloth are sufficient for cleaning.
  • Jewellery with a rough matte finish can be cleaned with a soft brush.
  • Deeper scratches and imperfections will be fixed for free as part of our lifetime service.

Caring for Damasteel jewellery

  • Use a soft cloth, such as a piece of flannel, to polish your jewels.
  • For a deeper clean, simply use soapy water and a soft brush to remove dirt (e.g., dough residue, dust, soap, etc.) from the texture.
  • We will repair gentle scratches free of charge as part of our lifetime service.
  • The structure of Damasteel can be restored to its original form when your jewels were new. However, it is important to note that each restoration slightly thins the jewel, and this process cannot be repeated indefinitely.

Silver jewellery care

  • Silver jewellery is the most demanding to maintain because it tarnishes. Tarnishing is not a defect in silver jewellery, it is a natural property. It is a natural phenomenon that cannot be prevented and is therefore not a reason for complaint. You can clean your silver jewel at home. You can use baking soda, for example. Put a piece of aluminum foil and a spoon full of baking soda in a plastic bowl and pour warm water over it. Put the jewel in this bath for a few minutes. Then take it out, rinse it under water, and polish it with a cloth.
  • Use a soft cloth to polish the jewels, preferably one that is intended for cleaning silver.
  • For more intense tarnishing, use a special silver cleaning bath, which is commonly available at drugstores, or send the jewelry to us and we will take care of cleaning it for you.
  • We will repair minor abrasions and scratches as part of our lifetime service.
  • Tarnishing can be solved by covering the jewellery with a thin layer of rhodium, which will preserve their shine for a longer period of time and also increase their durability. The jewellery can be re-rhodium-plated.

Gold jewellery care

  • A soft cleaning cloth is sufficient to restore shine and remove minor imperfections. For heavier dirt, special cloths impregnated with a cleaning mixture are available.
  • You can also use soap for cleaning. Gently soap the jewel and rinse with warm water.
  • You can send us your jewellery at any time and we will clean it for you.

Care for mixed-metal jewellery

  • This type of jewellery requires more specialized care, so it is best to send the jewellery to us for cleaning.

Care for jewellery with precious stones

  • Jewellery with precious stones or pearls requires more careful cleaning at home. Avoid contact with acidic and alkaline substances such as vinegar or lemon. It is better to send them to us and we will take care of cleaning them for you.

For all types, avoid rough materials or pastes, including toothpaste, when cleaning. Also avoid chemical cleaners that are not intended for jewellery.

Jewellery and rings purchased in our workshop come with a lifetime service, which also includes jewellery cleaning. If you are unsure about cleaning your jewel at home, send it to us and we will be happy to clean it for you. Most adjustments covered by lifetime service are free of charge. Please note that the free lifetime service does not include a postage. For jewellery sent from outside the European Union, customs duties and import fees are also not included (for more details, see our Lifetime Service policy.)

Please contact us in advance and send us a photo of the jewellery you wish to have serviced.
